Kazakh Ombudsman visits OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
ASTANA. February 1. KAZINFORM At the invitation of the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Kazakh Commissioner for Human Rights Askar Shakirov visited the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah (the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia); the Ombudsman's press service reports.
Within the framework of the visit A.Shakirov held meetings with OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu and Director General of the Secretariat of the Standing Committee for Human Rights of the OIC Hemayet Uddin, the decision on establishment of which was taken at the 38th session of the Council of OIC Foreign Ministers in Astana.
The OIC representatives were familiarized with activity of the Kazakh Ombudsman in the sphere of ensuring human rights, including in the issues of improvement of the legislative framework and law enforcement practices, interaction with nongovernmental and international organizations as well as implementation of international norms and standards in the sphere of human rights in the national legislation.
A constructive and interesting exchange of opinions on a wide range of issues of human rights protection was held and the agreements on closer cooperation of the national human rights institution with the OIC Committee were reached.
The OIC leadership highly appraised efficiency of the current Kazakh chairmanship in the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization.
