Kazakh Majilis ratifies Treaty on Good Neighborliness, Alliance with Russia

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Majilis, lower chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, has endorsed in the first reading the bill "On ratification of the Treaty on Good Neighborliness and Alliance in the 21st century between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation" at a plenary session on Wednesday.

"Kazakhstan considers Russia as its key political and economic partner in the Eurasian space. Development of multifaceted cooperation with Russia is in Kazakhstan's strategic interests. The treaty will be one of the fundamental documents in cooperation with Russia outlining the basic principles of the bilateral interaction," said Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Yerlan Idrissov introducing the bill. In his words, the document is set to develop bilateral political dialogue on relevant issues for the purpose of cementing peace, stability and security in the region. It defines the vector of development of further bilateral commercial and economic relations, formation of transport corridors, sustainable water management, interaction in military sphere and cultural and humanitarian cooperation. The treaty was inked by Nursultan Nazarbayev and Vladimir Putin on November 11, 2013.
