Kazakh Embassy in China opens hotline due to Kalmaegi typhoon

BEIJING. KAZINFORM - Representatives of the consular service of Kazakhstan to China are now trying to find out the fate of all Kazakhstan citizens who may be affected by Kalmaegi typhoon.

The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in China has opened a hotline to assist the citizens of Kazakhstan. People can learn about the fate of relatives within China. The embassy has set up two round-the-clock hotlines: + 86-137-1850-4917 (Beijing); + 85-259-647-112 (Hong Kong).

On Tuesday, September 16, Kalmaegi typhoon reached the coast of Hainan Province. Squally wind up to 40 meters per second and heavy rains hit the coastal areas of the north-western part of the island.

Due to the typhoon more than 100 flights at the international airport "Meilan" Haikou City of Hainan Province have been canceled and more than 60 flights in the airport "Fenghuang" Sanya.

According to the forecasts of meteorologists, heavy rain and wind on the island of Hainan, Guangdong, Yunnan and Guangxi Autonomous Region Chzhunaskom will last until Thursday. China's weather observatory on Monday issued an orange alert, the second most severe, for typhoon Kalmaegi. China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

In Hong Kong due to showers and squally winds a lot of schools, government offices and banks have been closed. International Airport, Chek Lap Kok, canceled or delayed dozens of flights. There was suspended ferry service including with Macau and mainland China's coastal cities.

The speed and force of Kalmaegi wind may be compared with the typhoon Rammasun which has killed more than 60 people in China in July of the current year.
