Kazakh diplomat met with Bulgaria Minister of Environment and Water in Sofia

ASTANA. November 30. KAZINFORM Charge d'Affaires of Kazakhstan Temirtai Izbastin held a meeting with Minister of Environment and Water of Bulgaria Nona Karadjova in Sofia on Monday; Kazinform refers to the press service of the Kazakhstan MFA.

The parties discussed the issues of development and prospects of Kazakh-Bulgarian relations. The Kazakh diplomat informed of the current socio-economic situation in Kazakhstan and told about the policy regarding the environmental protection and climate change problems.

Special attention was paid to the goal outlined by President Nursultan Nazarbayev in his Address to the Nation "New Kazakhstan in a New World" that "introduction of technologies and programs on saving and rational use of natural resources should be implemented following the principles of optimal combination of economic, social and ecological factors." The sides also talked about the work done within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, as well as the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency, development of clean technology, adaptation of legislation in the field of environment.

Mrs. Nona Karadjova praised the work of the Kazakh Government on environmental protection, economic and energy sectors as well as the initiatives of Kazakhstan as OSCE Chair.

The parties discussed the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico, expressing hope for the successful results of the meeting.

Discussing the EU-Kazakhstan bilateral relations the parties expressed interest in activation of interdepartmental cooperation and experience exchange in the field of environmental protection, natural resources management and environmentally sustainable development of society.
