Kazakh, Chinese FMs eye strategic partnership strengthening

As part of participation in the Fifth Central Asia – China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Chengdu on December 1, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Murat Nurtleu had a meeting with Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the press service of the Kazakh MFA.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for further development of the bilateral cooperation, and discussed the course of implementation of the agreements reached at the high and highest levels.

The parties also exchanged views on the topical issues of the regional and international agenda.

The Kazakh and Chinese foreign ministers noted the importance of joint efforts in enhancing trade-economic, transit and transport cooperation and ensuring energy security, as well as boosting Kazakhstan’s non-resource exports to China. It was noted that the bilateral trade hit a record high of 36.5 billion US dollars from January to October 2024, which is 11% higher than in the same period of 2023.

The sides discussed energy security issues, green economy promotion and further industrial cooperation. The foreign ministers also debated regional security having mentioned the importance of joint efforts in countering modern challenges and expressed readiness for strengthening stability in Central Asia.

Another issue on the agenda was cultural and humanitarian cooperation including the expansion of educational exchange, support of scientific researches and organization of joint cultural events.

“Kazakhstan and China are not just neighbors, but also strategic partners, capable of jointly overcoming the modern challenges and ensuring sustainable development of the region,” said Murat Nurtleu.

In turn, Wang Yi said that China highly appreciates friendly relations with Kazakhstan and strives to deepen them for the name of mutual benefit and prosperity of the two nations.

The meeting turned out to be an important step towards strengthening the eternal comprehensive strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China, having opened new prospects for a long-term cooperation.
