Kazakh, Chinese environmental protection ministers met in Beijing

BEIJING. July 2. KAZINFORM. /Talgat Baimukhambetov/ Making a working trip to China Kazakh Minister for Environmental Protection Nurgali Ashimov held talks with his Chinese counterpart Zhou Shengxian yesterday in Beijing; Kazinform refers to the Kazakh Embassy's press service.

The parties discussed the issues of interaction between the two states in the sphere of environmental protection and agreed to study the issue of creation of the Subcommittee on Cooperation in Environmental Protection under the China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee.

In the field of coordination of efforts on the world arena the delegations considered the issues of mutual support within the framework of implementation of the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Special attention was paid to the problem of pollution of the Khorgos River. N. Ashimov called on the Chinese side to proceed to realizing the treaty on development of a draft Kazakh-Chinese agreement on control over the quality of water resources of trans-border rivers and prevention of their pollution, which was reached between the presidents of Kazakhstan and China. Besides, the parties agreed to speed up consideration of a draft bilateral agreement on cooperation in the sphere of environmental protection.

Today the Kazakh delegation will visit the town Tianjin and study the issues of functioning of the local technology park as well as the Chinese experience in creation and development of clean productions.
