Kazakh-Chinese commission discussed usage and protection of cross-border rivers
TALDYKORGAN. June 23. KAZINFORM /Sandugash Duisenova/ A meeting with the working group of experts of the joint Kazakh-Chinese commission on use and protection of cross-border rivers was held in Taldykorgan regional akimat.
Deputy Governor of Almaty region Tynyshbai Dosymbekov opened the meeting. "Our region is one of the largest agro-industrial regions of Kazakhstan. It is called the Perl of Zhetysu (the land of seven rivers) for its natural resources. Five big rivers disgorge into Balkhash Lake. Balkhash Lake is a national property and its level depends on confluent of Ili River. Kazakhstan and China are neighbors, lining in peace and accord", the Deputy Governor said.
The Deputy Governor expressed hope that the negotiations will be successful and benefit for both states; proposals and recommendations will be considered in the practical work.
The Head of the Chinese delegation thanked for the warm reception, noting that he visits Kazakhstan and Almaty and Almaty region for the fifth time. Last year they get acquainted with water development facilities and channels of the region. The region plays important role in the Kazakh economy. There exist close contacts between the region and Xinjiang. The Governments of both countries pay special attention to the protection of cross-border rivers.
