K.Saudabayev holds range of meetings within 64th session of UN General Assembly

ANA. September 24. KAZINFORM The Kazakh delegation headed by Secretary of State-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kanat Saudabayev is taking part in the 64th session of the UN General Assembly; the Kazakh Government's press service reports.

Within the framework of the session Kanat Saudabayev held a number of bilateral meetings with heads of foreign ministries of China - Yang Jiechi, Canada - Lawrence Cannon, Latvia - Maris Riekstins, Slovakia - Miroslav Lajcak, Slovenia - Samuel Zbogar, Georgia - Grigol Vashadze.

The Secretary of State also negotiated with European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner, United States Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Jan Kubis.

At the meeting with the Chinese Minister the sides noted the high level and dynamical development of political and trade-economic cooperation and emphasized that Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's official visit to China in April, 2009 gave a high-power impulse to all-round development of bilateral cooperation.

The state and prospects of bilateral relations and preparation for Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE were discussed at the meeting with the colleagues from the states of the Euro-Atlantic space. It was noted that the chairmanship in the OSCE represents grave responsibility and challenge for Kazakhstan and gives a chance to the country to make contribution in problems solution.

The same day K.Saudabayev attended the reception in honor of the heads of delegations on the behalf of US President Barack Obama. Confirming Kazakhstan's adherence to further strengthening strategic partnership with United States, K.Saudabayev conveyed Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's best wishes to the Head of the White House. The secretary of State expressed support to the US President's approaches to solution of the modernity problems, which were voiced at the UN General Assembly's session, in particular, his striving for bringing up a new impulse to nuclear disarmament processes. Thanking the Kazakh President for wishes and support, B.Obama expressed plan to develop cooperation with Kazakhstan.

Today the Kazakh Foreign Minister is planned to deliver a speech at the Conference on Facilitating the Entry into Force of the Comprehensive Nuclear -Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), take part in the UN Security Council's session on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, a number of bilateral meetings and participation in the event organized by the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI).
