Japan requests Canada hand over Chinese man over 1995 murder of 3 women

TOKYO. July 24. KAZINFORM Japanese investigative authorities are asking the government of Canada to hand over a Chinese man living there believing he may know a suspect in the murders of three women in Tokyo in 1995, Japanese investigative sources said Tuesday.

Japan has concluded criminal extradition treaties only between the United States and South Korea. If realized, it will be a rare case in which a suspect will be handed over to Japan from a country without such a treaty, Kyodo reports.

Japanese investigators have already obtained an arrest warrant for the 41-year-old man for allegedly violating passport law. A native of Fujian Province in China, the Chinese man lived in Tokyo in the 1990s, they said.
