Issues of reconstruction of territories contaminated with radioactive materials discussed in Astana

ASTANA. May 18. KAZINFORM /Narymbek Ismagulov/ Five-day international conference on the issues of reconstruction of territories contaminated with radioactive materials has started its work today in Astana. The conference is organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency together with the Kazakh Government.
Experts of international organizations, leadership of Ministries and Departments of Kazakhstan, reps of diplomatic missions, accredited in Kazakhstan take part in the conference.
Kazakh Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sauat Mynbayev noted that the problem of reconstruction of territories contaminated with radioactive materials is of special importance for Kazakhstan as a country having on its territory the polygon for nuclear tests and nuclear industry and developing nuclear energy sector.
As Director of the Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology of the IAEA Hans Forsstrem said, Kazakhstan possesses big territories, requiring reconstruction and liquidation of residues of the radioactive materials. A range of important initiatives on this issue has been taken by the republic, in this regard the experience, gained by the country on the methodic of organization of the reconstruction can be successfully applied in other countries.
