Iran warns of ‘crushing’ response to new US threats

Iran’s top military commander has warned that any attack or “miscalculation” by its adversaries would trigger a “crushing” and “devastating” response, as Washington prepares new economic measures against Tehran, Qazinform News Agency correspondent reports, citing IRNA.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Ali Abdollahi issued the warning on Friday in a message marking Iran’s Defense Industry Day on August 22.

“Any miscalculation by the enemy will be met with revolutionary, crushing, regret-inducing and devastating responses,” Abdollahi said.

He said Iran’s armed forces maintain comprehensive readiness across land, sea, air, air defense, space and cyberspace, adding that the country would respond to new threats across multiple domains.

Abdollahi described Iran’s defense industry as a key pillar of national power and said its development had evolved beyond the production of military equipment into what he called a “deterrent defense industrial revolution.”

His remarks came after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that Washington was preparing a new package of measures against Iran, with details expected to be unveiled on Monday. Bessent said the United States planned to combine a naval blockade with what he described as the toughest sanctions in history to increase pressure on the Iranian leadership.

US President Donald Trump has also warned of economic consequences for countries providing Iran with “any support.”

Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that Trump launched an 'unprecedented economic warfare' against Iran.
