Iran channel banned
RIYADH. November 5. KAZINFORM Tehran's prime Arabic language television network Al-Alam has been taken off the air by two Arab satellite operators based in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, including the Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat), Kazinform refers to Arab News.
"This Iranian news channel has been violating the rules of broadcasting and the provisions of the agreement and hence it was decided to take it off the air," said an Arabsat engineer on Thursday.
Riyadh-based Arabsat said Al-Alam has breached its commitments by airing programs that maligned the Arab world. Arabsat CEO Khalid A. Balkheyour and PR manager Saad Tehaif were unavailable for comment.
An Arabsat spokesman refused to disclose details about the agreement between Arabsat and Al-Alam, Kazinform cites Arab News. See www.arabnews.com for full version.
