Investors from Europe, Asia to be invited into Belbiograd project

NSK. October 28. KAZINFORM Belarus is in talks on attracting funds from European and Asian investors in bid to set up a sci-tech park Belbiograd, Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Pakhmanov told media on 27 October.

Accoridng to BelTA, Sergei Rakhmanov noted that the negotiations on the project that envisages the establishment of Belbiograd are held with four major investors. He did not specify the names of the companies, noting only that they are from Europe and Asia. " China is one of the potential partners. We hope this country will participate in the project," he said.

Several sites for Belbiograd construction are in the plan. "One of them is within an industrial park which is to be set up near Minsk national airport," noted the expert.

The project has been initiated by the Economy Ministry with the participation of the National Academy of Sciences. The Belbiograd sci-tech park will be implementing projects in microbiology, biotechnologies, and nanotechnologies.

According to Sergei Rakhmanov, the implementation of the project will require the consolidation of the efforts of all shareholders as well as the attraction of foreign partners. Foreign investment is expected to make the major contribution in the project.

In his words, Belbiograd is planned to be opened next year.

Belbiograd, a multifunctional sci-tech park specializing in pharmaceutics, nano and biotechnologies, will work for securing high competitiveness of Belarusian nanobiopharmaceutics on the foreign and domestic markets. The park is expected to become a key institute in helping Belarus develop its innovation-oriented economy.
