Interparliamentary Conference on European Security opens with wreath laying in St.Petersburg

SAINT PETERSBURG. April 8. KAZINFORM /Yelena Myagkova/ The participants of the Interparliamentary Conference on European Security have started their work from wreath laying to the monument in the Piskarev Memorial Cemetery where over 500,000 soldiers and civilians who died in Leningrad's blockade were buried.

The parliamentarians honored memory of the fallen by observing a minute of silence.

Chairman of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Sergey Mironov emphasized that this tribute is not only tribute to the memory. According to him, this demonstrates the parliamentarians that their public service is to prevent new war.

The conference participants as representatives of legislative power will focus on legal frameworks of the future architecture of the European security.

The issues of 'soft security' will be discussed at the forum as well. This term describes economic, cultural, demographic and other problems.
