Rupiah Banda arrived in Malawi on Thursday afternoon, according to the report of Zambia News and Information Service (ZANIS). The Malawi Electoral Commission announced early on Friday that Bingu Wa Mutharika won the presidential election. With votes counted from 93.25 percent of voting stations, Mutharika won Tuesday's presidential election with 2,730,630 of the votes, a comfortable lead over his nearest rival, opposition candidate John Tembo, who received 1,270,057 of the ballots cast, Malawi Electoral Commission Chairwoman Anastasia Msosa said. The votes from the remaining 19 polling stations, yet to be counted, would not change the overall result, according to Msosa. Earlier, opposition candidate Tembo alleged vote-rigging and told a press conference that he would go to court.
