III EAPC Security Forum kicks off today in Astana

ANA. June 25. KAZINFORM /Kanat Kulshmanov/ -    The III Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) Security Forum is going to kick off today in the Independence Palace of Astana. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, Ministers of  Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and Denmark Marat Tazhin and Per Stig MOLLER, U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Alexander Vershbow, SCO Secretary Bolat Nurgaliyev, Special Representative of the EU in Central Asia and crisis in Georgia Pier Morel and others will speak at the plenary session.

The Security Forum is an informal venue of an open and free discussion of the problems of regional and global security. The forum theme "Security through partnership" and the situation in the regions of Central Asia and Caucasus, and Afghanistan and energy safety will be discussed.  

Delegations from 50 countries of the EAPC and NATO and other international organizations, and mass media have arrived to participate in the forum.

Other than that, the NATO PA plans to organize an inter-parliamentary seminar Rousa-Rota on the relevant issues of Euro-Atlantic Security.   

The Security Forum was initiated by Kazakhstan President and was backed by the NATO. This is the first time this forum is held in the post-soviet area and an Asian continent and will be a largest event in Kazakhstan of 2009.
