Further Development of Kazakhstan Legislation Round Table held in Almaty

ALMATY. June 4. KAZINFORM /Daniyar Sikhimbayev/ A round table entitled Further Development of Kazakhstan Legislation on Freedom of Meetings has taken place today in Almaty.

The event was organized by the Human Rights Commission under the President of Kazakhstan, Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR/OSCE), OSCE Center in Almaty, Freedom House Office in Almaty and Kazakhstan International Bureau on Human Rights and Law Process; Kazinform reports. Parliamentarians, representatives of Kazakh Government, Experts Panel for Freedom of Assemblies, ODIHR/OSCE and representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps participated in the event. The participants discussed the international standards and obligations of the OSCE in the sphere of peaceful meetings including leading principles of ODIHR/OSCE and Venice Commission for Freedom of Peaceful Assemblies. According to Secretary of the Commission on Human Rights under the President of Kazakhstan Tastemir Abishev further development of the national legislation on peaceful assemblies, demonstrations, meetings and processions is necessary in accordance with the National Action Plan in the sphere of human rights for 2009-2011.
