Hungarian-U.S. military training team leaving for Afghanistan
BUDAPEST. June 23. KAZINFORM A farewell ceremony was held on Monday in Tata, Hungary, for a joint Hungarian-U.S. military training team to be sent to Afghanistan; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
Hungarian army chief Andras Tombol said at the ceremony that the 60 -strong Operational Mentor and Liaison Team (OMLT) will train the Afghan army to provide security in the upcoming presidential elections on August 20, the Hungarian News Agency MTI reported.
U.S. Colonel Jerry Rees, director of operations for the Ohio National Guard, said the OMLT would be the second such joint team to undertake peace-keeping mission in Afghanistan.
He also said cooperation between the Ohio National Guard and the Hungarian army dates back to 16 years ago.
Hungary currently has 350 troops in Afghanistan, MTI reported; Kazinform cites Xinhua.
