Hundreds of animals in Astana animal homes waiting for responsive people

ASTANA. January 8. KAZINFORM - You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. These are the lines from the famous novella by Saint-Exupéry “The Little Prince”, and they are the best to reveal our reality. People often take animals in Astana, and then throw them outside without thinking of consequences, according to astana.kz.

Alexandra Mirvaliyeva, the director of the dog pound “The way home”:

“ At the moment we have 80 adult dogs and 22 puppies. Mostly they are dogs from the street, people bring them to us, we don’t go for them. Someone finds them, some may be frozen, so they get to us. The same thing with puppies: some were at building sites, they are brought to us. Dogs get here from building sites, so that they wouldn’t be shot. Or there are cases when the owner dies, the house is sold and people bring dogs to us. Often 3 dogs go home, but 4 dogs come to us instead”.

Different dogs can be seen in the metropolitan animal’s home: quiet and friendly, angry and restless, but anxiety can be seen in their eyes. The animals eat dry feed, buckwheat, rice and fresh beef. In addition, they have their own veterinary, and they are walked by volunteers.

Alexandra Mirgaliyeva, the director of the dog pound “The way home”: “ There are about 15 such people, they always help. They help in cleaning, walking the dogs, they come and help to clean the territory”.

Fortunately, people often take the dogs home; however they bring animals here often as well. By summer the owner of the animal’s home is going to build a closed exercising area, where the four-legged will have an opportunity to run.
