Holding OSCE Summit - best gift to 35th anniversary of Organization: Jeannette Kloetzer
ASTANA. August 10. KAZINFORM /Zhanna Korkitova/ "The best gift to the 35th anniversary of the OSCE will be holding the top-level Summit after 11-year hiatus", Deputy Head of the OSCE Center in Astana Jeannette Kloetzer has said today at the seminar for "Nur Otan" Party's members on priorities of modernization of the OSCE activity in post-crisis period held in Astana.
She informed on the history, basic principles and priorities of the Organization. She also noted that Kazakhstan has defended its positions since it joined the Organization.
The first document remaining the basis of the OSCE activity - the Helsinki Final Act was signed 35 years ago on August 1, 1975. "I believe that the best celebration of this anniversary is conduction of the OSCE Summit in Astana this year", J.Kloetzer said.
According to her, 6 top-level meetings were held within the OSCE from 1975 through 1999. Heads of State and Government of the participating countries defined the main priorities and set tasks at the top political level in form of basic documents and decisions.
The OSCE Summit has been held six times since the establishment of the Organization in 1975. The last top-level Summit was held in Istanbul in 1999 while the last political declaration of the Organization was adopted in 2002.
