High winds in Russia's Pacific region leave 3,000 without power

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. October 29. KAZINFORM. A severe storm in Russia's northern Kuril Islands has left some 3,000 residents without electricity, regional official Renat Gizatullin said on Thursday; Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
The storm, which was formed southeast of Tokyo on Monday, brought heavy rains and high winds of 41 meters per second (92 mph), downing power lines and poles in the Pacific city of Severo-Kurilsk early on Thursday.
Hospitals and other essential organizations are operating on emergency power and residents should receive electricity by the end of Thursday, Gizatullin said; Kazinform cites RIA Novosti.
