Heavy damage reported following quake in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK. July 25. KAZINFORM A powerful quake which hit the Batken region in the south of Kyrgyzstan on July 20 caused heavy damage to more than 3,500 buildings and facilities of social and cultural infrastructure, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry for Emergency Situations said on Monday. The overall losses caused by the quake are being estimated, the source said; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

The epicenter of the quake which measured from seven to eight points was located ten kilometers deep under the ground in the area of the settlement of Sovetskoye. The quake measured around six points in the regional center of Batken; in Bishkek earth tremors reached two-three points.

Official reports said no one was killed; fifteen people were injured in the quake, including two victims hospitalized. Earth tremors were also registered on the adjoining territories in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan which reported casualties and damage.
