Head of Kazakhstan’s Mission presented credentials to President of EC

SSELS. July 31. KAZINFORM /Yerzhan Ospnaov/ Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belgium, Luxemburg, Head of Kazakhstan's Mission under the EU and NATO Yerik Utembayev presented credentials to President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso; Kazinform reports.

During the meeting the parties held negotiations on a wide spectrum of bilateral relations including regional and international issues which are of mutual interest.

The Head of the EC noted that the European Union and Kazakhstan have a huge potential for strengthening of the political dialogue as well as development of the trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation emphasizing primary interest in economic component of bilateral relations. He highly appraised election of Kazakhstan as Chairman of the OSCE in 2010 that according to him will let Kazakhstan effectively use the OSCE platform in cooperation with the EC.

Y. Utembayev noted that this is a high mission and Kazakhstan is ready to contribute to further balanced development of the OSCE activity.

In his turn J.M. Barroso expressed support to the Kazakhstan's initiative on preparing of new basic Agreement between Kazakhstan and the European Union on advanced partnership pointing out that the level of Kazakhstan-European ties today has developed far beyond the present Agreement on cooperation and partnership.

The Ambassador emphasized intentions of Kazakhstan with adoption of the Path to Europe State Program to strengthen mutual cooperation with the European side in energy, transport, oil chemistry, nuclear energy, industry, new technology, agriculture, information technology, education and etc.
