Head of Kazakh Government urges not to consider state aid measures as charity

ASTANA. June 12. KAZINFORM - Today Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov within the meetings with the leaders of the backbone enterprises of the country has had a session concerning activities of "Kazakhmys" corporation, reports the Premiere's web-site.

The official arrangement was attended by heads of central and local government bodies, and national companies.

A report on the main lines of production activities of the corporation and its prospects was made by the Chairman of the Board E.Ogay.

Taking into account that the company is a backbone enterprise of Zhezkazgan and Balkhash region, the Prime Minister said about "the need for compliance to take on social obligations."

At the same time, the head of the Government calls "not to consider government support as charity care."

"The government will make contribution if it sees the real role of corporations in addressing socially important issues in the region. And this is important, " said Akhmetov.

Following the discussion, the Prime Minister instructed the concerned state agencies to establish a working group chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister B.Sagintaev "to identify promising areas in the region to diversify, to deepen the program of one-company towns, as well as regional issues in general."
