Head of CIS Antiterrorist Center calls for common transportation security standards
MOSCOW. February 12. KAZINFORM Head of the CIS Antiterrorist Center Andrei Novikov believes it is important to work out common transportation security standards in the Eurasian space. He made this statement at a session of the chiefs of anti-terrorist centers of the CIS member states in Moscow, BelTA learnt from head of the press center of the center Marina Kulchitskaya.
Andrei Novikov stressed that counterterrorist measures is an essential part of transportation security. "Development of the Single Economic Space and the Eurasian Union by Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan has already intensified economic activity. I am talking about not only an increase in passenger and cargo flows but also about the implementation of projects on the transportation infrastructure development," the head of the CIS Antiterrorist Center said.
According to him, the problem of preventing, detecting, suppressing and investigating criminal acts and acts of terrorism that threaten the security of transport is vital for the CIS member states and requires close attention to both public authorities and business and public communities.
"Basic tasks facing the security agencies, special services and law enforcement agencies of the CIS countries in this area is the development of uniform standards for safe transport environment in the Eurasian space, sustainable counter-terrorist security of the transport industry, use of innovative technologies in order to ensure the security of passenger and freight transport, infrastructure facilities, especially in large cities," Andrei Novikov stressed.
Partaking in the meeting were delegations from security agencies and special forces, other CIS bodies of Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine.
