Haitian president appreciates assistance pledged at Unasur summit
QUITO. February 10. KAZINFORM Haitian President Rene Preval said Tuesday he was "extremely satisfied" with the results of an extraordinary summit of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) held to make an integral plan of aid for quake-hit Haiti, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
"I am extremely satisfied because we have reached concrete conclusions," Preval told a press conference.
Unasur leaders met here Tuesday to coordinate actions to help Haiti's reconstruction. The organization groups Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela and Ecuador.
Preval particularly appreciated the assistance from Ecuador, which holds the rotating Unasur presidency. "I know ... it is money of the Ecuadorian people and it is to the Ecuadorian people I have to be grateful for aiding my country," he said.
