Gross grain harvest totaled 22.7 mln tons in bunker weight - Kazakh Minister of Agriculture
ASTANA. October 20. KAZINFORM. /Muratbek Makulbekov/ Kazakhstan gathered good harvest of nearly all types of crops. Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Akhylbek Kurishbayev has said it at the Government's sitting today.
According to the Minister, gross grain harvest totaled 22.7 mln tons in bunker weight that is by 34% more as compared to 2008. Oilseed acreage for the first time ever exceeded 1 million hectares. Oilseed harvest is planned to reach 700 thousand tons. It is by 70% more than the last year level and allows to foster self-sufficiency in vegetable oils.
The Minister also specified that the rice harvest increased by 26% and reached 322 thousand tons. Potato production increased by 50%, fruit crop and grape - by 16%.
"This year we created a good basis to supply the population with crop products and achieve food security in Kazakhstan", A. Kurishbayev said.
