Governmental commission arrives in Ulytau region to investigate Zhomart mine collapse
The special commission led by Kazakh Vice Premier Kanat Bozumbayev has arrived in Ulytau region to investigate the causes of the Zhomart mine collapse, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from the government of Kazakhstan.
The commission members include governor of Ulytau region Dastan Rysspekov, Emergency Situations Minister Chingis Arinov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Baurzhan Alenov, First Vice Minister of Labor and Social Protection Akmadi Sarbassov, Vice Minister of Healthcare Yerzhan Nurlybayev, Vice Minister of Industry and Construction Iran Sharkhan, Acting Chairman of the Industrial Safety Committee of the Emergency Situations Ministry Rashid Dubayev and Chairman of the Board of Kazakhmys Corporation Nurakhmet Nuriyev.
Earlier, the emergency situations service, the Interior Ministry and the Industrial Security Committee’s investigative team as well as the Labor Ministry and local police personnel arrived at the mine collapse site.
Upon arrival, Bozumbayev inspected the collapse site of the Zhomart mine as well as familiarized with the investigation. The Vice Premier gave instructions to provide immediate assistance and the family members of those died as well as assess the damage.
Bozumbayev also held a Commission meeting and met with the relatives of the miners killed.
As earlier reported, seven workers were trapped inside an underground shaft at Zhomart mine in Kazakhstan's Ulytau region. The incident occurred at around 4:50pm local time 150km away from Zhezkazgan town.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev extended condolences to the families of the miners killed in the Kazakhmys Corporation’s mine collapse in Ulytau region.
Kazakhmys Corporation will give necessary assistance provided for by collective agreement to the families of the miners killed at the Zhomart mine in Ulytau region.
It said in a statement that the bereaved families will be paid tenfold the annual mean earnings of a worker and over 2 million tenge for funeral expenses as social and material aid and compensation for moral damages.
