Government to provide KZT1.3bn to restore overhead power lines damaged by floods in Kostanay region
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov of Kazakhstan has signed an order providing over 1.3 billion tenge from the emergency reserve of the government to restore overhead power lines in Kostanay region, damaged as a result of massive flooding. Restoration works are to be carried out in the town of Arkalyk as well as Amangeldinskiy and Dzhangeldinskiy districts, Kazinform News Agency reports.
On March 27 this year, rising water levels in rivers and waterways of Kostanay region led to flooding in the southern parts, damaging soil under the overhead power lines and transformer substations. As a result, 37 settlements suffered from electricity outages and 989 overhead power lines were damaged.
Presently, electricity is supplied to all the major settlements on a temporary basis. Repair crews continue working to address the aftermath of the floods as soon as possible, said the government.
In total, 12 thousand homes (individual housing constructions) and 26 thousand country houses were flooded. Out of total 17,982 homes examined, 15,685 underwent assessment. Around half of them are in need of repair and restoration. 5,823 families have already received compensations for these purposes worth 38.6 billion tenge. Up to eight thousand homes were identified as unsafe.
3,155 households, whose homes were affected by floods, already received new housing. Construction of 2,049 homes is under full swing in the region. In total, 251 billion tenge has been provided for restoration and construction of housing.
In addition, over 2.3 thousand overhead power lines, 54 km of lines were damaged. The total overhead power lines damaged are 40% restored.
