Global Environment Fund to allocate USD 3,4 for Kazakhstan's medical water management
ASTANA. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan has launched the medical waste management project.
Carried out by the Environment and Water Resources Ministry, UNDP and Global Environment Fund the project aims at rational medical waste management and revision of the national plan for meeting commitments of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. "The Global Environment Fund allocates USD 3,4 mln to have the project realized," project manager Nina Gor said. As statistics data indicates, healthcare facilities produce above 20,000 tons of waste. The new project will allow lifting institutional and legal barriers in the medical waste and mercury-containing equipment management, evaluating mercury situation, working at ratification of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, choosing the best available technology for the safe healthcare waste management in Kazakhstan.
