Georgia ex-President Shevardnadze dies aged 86

The ex-foreign minister of the Soviet Union and former President of Georgia Shevardnadze died after a long illness. Born in 1928 in the city of Lanchkhuti, Mr. Shevardnadze was a prominent politician and state figure. In 1992 he became the President of Georgia, but was toppled in November 2003 in the Rose Revolution. Shevardnadze spent his final years in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi.
