The organizers of the 2024 Olympic Games have selected the renowned Kazakhstani athlete to inaugurate the boxing competition on July 31. Golovkin signaled the start of the bouts by striking the floor three times with a wooden stick.

“This ritual is one of the key novelties introduced at the 2024 Olympic Games. The organizers combined theater and sports, paying tribute to the cultural traditions of France. The ceremony is designed to create a bond between spectators and athletes. In addition to the cultural component, this tradition appeals to the importance of respecting the athletes' performances. Three strikes are meant to remind spectators that each event is a unique performance that deserves the attention and respect of the public, and fans in the stands are invited to observe a moment of silence at the moment of three strikes, as in the theater,” the Committee explained.
