Gennady GGG Golovkin given permission to fight against Daniel Geale July 26
ASTANA. KAZINFORM - WBA on Monday cleared the way for Gennady Golovkin - Daniel Geale middleweight title fight July 26 at Madison Square Garden, agreeing to make Golovkin 'super champion' at 160 pounds weight, Sports.kz reports.
Previously the Venezuelan sanctioning organization recommended Golovkin's representatives to begin negotiations with other Australian boxer, relatively unknown Jarrod Fletcher (18-1, 10 KOs) as he was the leading available boxer against whom Golovkin could make an overdue mandatory defense of his WBA title. HBO Sports executive would not approve Fletcher as a contender for Golovkin's next fight on the network, which prompted the managing director of K2 Promotions Tom Loeffler to request that the WBA either raise Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs) to the status of 'super champion' or grant him an exceptional right to make an optional defense against Geale (30-2, 16 KOs), a former IBF and WBA middleweight champion.
