Gdansk, Poland, world leaders remember start of WWII
GDANSK. September 2. KAZINFORM Memorial ceremonies dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the start of World War Two are to be held here on Tuesday. The ceremonies will be attended by the Heads of Government and Foreign ministers of the European countries that survived in the most terrible war in the history of mankind; Kazinform refers to ITAR-TASS.
The ceremonies will be hosted by Polish President Lech Kaczynski and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin of Russia, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of Italy, and Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko of Ukraine will be among the guests. In all, the Gdansk ceremonies will involve 30 national delegtions.
Polish organisers are disapointed by a low level of US representation. The United States is to be represented by James Jones, President Barack Obama's national security adviser, and former Secretary of Defense William Perry; Kazinform cites ITAR-TASS.
