Some 2000 delegates from more than 120 countries of the world gathered for a representative forum in order to debate new initiatives in the sphere of nuclear disarmament, issues of inter-faith accord in the world, securing human rights and freedoms.

At the event, Kazakhstan was represented by a delegation of parliamentarians headed by Majilis Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union is one of the oldest and most authoritative international organizations established back in 1889. It works for peace and cooperation among peoples and for the firm establishment of representative democracy. Kazakhstan became the member of the organization in 1993.

The IPU convenes twice a year in order for parliamentarians to have an opportunity to discuss pressing global issues and exchange experience.

Participants of the 127th IPU Assembly, including world's eminent politicians and parliamentarians, focused on the international initiatives of Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

"We find Kazakhstan's experience in securing peace, accord and security very interesting. Thanks to President Nazarbayev and his global initiatives, especially in the cause of inter-faith dialogue, Kazakhstan has earned a remarkable standing in the world. We always consider Kazakhstan's proposals with particular interest," Norbert Lammert, President of German Bundestag, shared his opinion at the conference.

G-global project generated intense interest among foreign parliamentarians. Kazakhstan's experience of inter-faith dialogue, the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions also sparked public interest.

Within the framework of the IPU Assembly, Majilis Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin had bilateral meetings with his colleagues from Afghanistan, Egypt, Canada, Pakistan, Germany, and South Korea. In the course of the constructive dialogue the sides paid attention to further development and strengthening of the interparliamentary cooperation. Thus, Nurlan Nigmatulin and Norbert Lammert expressed confidence that it would greatly contribute and promote the parliamentary diplomacy at the international level.

"I know Kazakhstan very well and I am proud of my friendship with President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Today, you can hardly find a person who does not know about Kazakhstan and this is all because of your president's efforts and authority. His initiatives, especially the G-global project, are of paramount importance for the global economy," Jean Chretien, former Prime Minister of Canada, said during the bilateral meeting.
