Funeral of legendary singer Zykina to be held in Moscow this Sat
MOSCOW. July 4. KAZINFORM. Moscow will pay its last respects to legendary Lyudmila Zykina on Saturday. The great Russian singer will be buried at Moscow's Novodevichye cemetery on Saturday afternoon; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass
The mourning ceremony began on Friday at the Tchaikovsky concert hall, from where the coffin was carried to the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia noted that the name of Lyudmila Zykina would forever remain a symbol of love for Russia, charity and kindness.
Less than a month ago, the entire country congratulated the favourite singer on her jubilee -- the 80th anniversary. Years and illnesses did not fade her majestic beauty, and the main -- she did not lose her unique voice that up to her last days was as captivating as before.
The singer had many high awards, but never considered herself to be a star. She said she just tried to work. She knew about 2,000 songs and recorded more than 250 compositions. The total number of copies of her recordings exceeded six million.
Zykina was deservedly called a symbol and voice of Russia; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass. See www.itar-tass.com for full version.
