Funding of Kazakhstan's science likely to increase to 1% of GDP

ASTANA. January 25. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ New funding system implies increased spending on the development of science in the country to 1 percent of GDP. Kazakh Deputy Minister of Education and Science Makhmetgali Sarybekov has made it public while representing a draft law "On science" at an enlarged sitting of Social and Cultural Development Committee of the Senate of the Kazakh Parliament.

"The bill takes into account international experience and opinion of the international scientific community, it is widely discussed in scientific organizations, among scholars in universities, in Nur Otan People's Democratic Party", the Vice Minister noted.

The document offers a new model of science management, the role of scientists at all stages of decision-making is increased. It is planned to establish a center of state scientific and technical expertise that will provide an independent evaluation of scientific projects and programs.

After the discussion the Committee decided to introduce the bill to the Senate. The Upper House of the Parliament will also be suggested considering a companion bill on amendments to legislation on the issues of science.
