Fukushima events not seriously affect global nuclear plans - Kazatomprom

TANA. October 5. KAZINFORM /Kanat Kulshmanov/ Nuclear energy is the only stable and long-term alternative to the traditional non-renewable energy sources, Kazatomprom Vice President Sergei Yashin said at KAZENERGY Forum in Astana.

He said that even the incident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan did not seriously affect the global plans to build new reactors, except those countries, like Germany, which had not planned to develop nuclear energy.

According to him, it is forecasted that by 2030 about 550 additional power units will be built around the world. The main growth in generating capacity is expected in Russia, India and China. "The only uncertainty after the Fukushima is the construction period of new reactors," he added.
