French boy killed by ice hockey puck
PARIS. KAZINFORM - An eight-year-old boy watching an ice hockey game from the stands has been struck and killed by a flying puck, in northern France, according to Gold Coast Bulletin.
The puck flew off the ice during a game between Dunkirk and Reims, striking the boy behind the ear, according to the regional La Voix du Nord newspaper.
The young player, who was a member of the Dunkirk club, suffered a heart attack, the report said. He was rushed to hospital, where his death on Sunday was announced by the team. "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of little Hugo this morning. R.I.P little angel," the Dunkerque Corsaires, as the club is known, tweeted. La Voix du Nord reported that the boy, whose full name was given as Hugo Vermeersch, was in a part of the stands not shielded from the ice by a protective screen.
