French authorities confirm hospitalization of 22 in Hantavirus case
The French Ministry of Health announced that 22 people identified as having been in contact with a Dutch passenger, who died from hantavirus aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship, are currently hospitalized, Agenzia Nova reported.
According to the ministry, the eight French nationals who boarded the first flight from Sainte-Hélène to Johannesburg on April 25 with the sick passenger are all being treated in Paris hospitals. Others who traveled on the Johannesburg-Amsterdam flight are hospitalized in different cities across France.
The government has scheduled at least four meetings today to address the situation.
Earlier, Qazinform reported that passengers evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise ship, which experienced an outbreak of the Andes hantavirus, are recommended undergoing a 42-day quarantine, according to World Health Organization (WHO).
