Frankfurt-am-Main held roundtable on international adoption

FRANKFURT-AM-MAIN - BRUSSELS. April 2. KAZINFORM /Yerzhan Ospanov/ A roundtable on discussing the issues of international adoption was held in Frankfurt-am-Main. The event was organized by the Kazakhstan Consulate General under the auspices of Zukunft fur Kinder (Future for Children) association.

Chairman of the Children's Rights Protection Committee of the Kazakhstan Ministry of Education and Science Raisa Sher, Head of Consular Section of the RK Embassy in Berlin Y. Daurenbek made reports. The event was also attended by the representatives of the Youth Affairs Department of Frankfurt-am-Main, Zukunft fur Kinder association in Eastern Europe (Oberhausen city), Children Adoption Center of Baden-Baden, Familie International Frankfurt e.V community as well as journalists of Deutsche Welle radio and Neue Zeiten journal.

Delivering a speech Representative of the Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science Raisa Sher informed the participants of ratification of the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (Hague Adoption Convention) by Kazakhstan as well as the measures taken in our country for improvement of legislation in adoption. In particular, she noted that Kazakhstan had developed a bill On marriage and family providing for accreditation of foreign agencies on adoption on the territory of Kazakhstan. In accordance with the law, these agencies will have a right only for accompaniment of foreign families wishing to adopt a child. Besides, the country has developed a data bank on children available for adoption.

Consul General of Kazakhstan to Frankfurt-am-Main Beibut Atamkulov stressed importance of interaction of both countries official in this speher. Alongside, creation of favorable conditions for children must become a key issue, he emphasized. He also proposed to provide the children at the age of 10 with a right to choose their future parents.

The representatives of the abovementioned German organizations told about their activity including work with the children adopted and their new parents. They also expressed wish on opening their representation offices in Kazakhstan.

The participants exchanged views on a wide range of issues regarding international adoption.
