Four Russians, one Azeri rescued from cargo ship in Aegean Sea
ATHENS. February 23. KAZINFORM. Four Russians and one Azeri were rescued from the cargo ship Alborada in distress off the Greek Island of Tilos in the Aegean Sea; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
"All five crewmembers are feeling well," a Greek Coast Guard official told Itar-Tass. "They were taken to hospital on Rhodes for possible medical treatment and have already been discharged."
The ship flying the Comoros flag and carrying 80-90 tones of tobacco was en route from Bulgaria to Turkey when it got caught in a strong storm in the Aegean Sea and tilted.
"The sailors gave a May Day call that was received by the Coast Guard Service. The ship's commercial agent also telephoned us about the dangerous situation. Three Coast Guard boats, a Super Puma helicopter and a nearby tanker were sent to the area immediately. The helicopter spotted the sailors in an inflatable raft," the official said.
The Coast Guard Service has no information about the ship; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass. See www.itar-tass.com for full version.
