FM meets with religious forum participants

ANA. July 1. KAZINFORM /Kurmat Samarkhan/ -    Minister of Foreign Affairs Marat Tazhin has held bilateral meetings with the participants of the religious forum which is being held in Astana. Marat Tazhin and Sergey Orjonikidze, the United Nations Deputy Secretary General discussed the issues of interaction of Kazakhstan within the UN, according to the MFA press service.

  Mr. Orjonikidze emphasized the importance of the foreign political initiatives of Kazakhstan which are, in his opinion, are a big contribution to the development of the system of global security and serve as a strong mechanism of the dialogue of civilizations.

The issues of preparation to the forthcoming International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures in 2010 announced by the UN General Assembly were discussed at the meeting with the President of the UNESCO's Executive Council Olabiyi Babaloia Joseph Yai. To hold the Year the Rapprochement of Cultures was proposed by the UNESCO at the initiative of Kazakhstan.

Formation of a permanent dialogue with the religious leaders of the United States was the subject of discussion between Minister Tazhin and President of the Union of Christian Churches of America, protopope Leonid Kishkovsky. The latter pointed out the relevance of the forum which proves to be a good venue of the religious conversation.

The Minister also met with Advisor to the President of Iran, Director of the Organization of Culture and Islamic Relations Seyed Mehdi Mostavafi. They discussed the issues of cooperation in cultural and humanitarian fields.
