Floods destroy several bridges in Karaganda region

KARAGANDA. KAZINFORM - Bridges in Bukhar-Zhyrau and Nura districts, Karaganda region, have been destroyed due to melt water floods, Kazinform refers to administration offices of the areas.

"A bridge near the village of Kenzharyk, located on Izendy-Sonaly road, has been destroyed due to strong ice movement and water flow on Kulanotpes River. A bridge on Barshyno-Tkenekty highway is damaged. In addition, melt waters have washed footings of a bridge erected above Astana-Kurgaldzhino-Barshyno-Shubarkol highway," informed administration office of Nura district. Transport links to the settlements Kenzharyk, Sonaly, Kulanotpes, Barshino, Zhanbobek, Tkenekty, Taldysay, and Tassuat have been cut off. District authorities report that there is no power supply to Zhukey, Sonaly, Kulanotpes, Nygman, Aktobek, Amantau villages due to the collapse of power support structures. Kuznetsk Bridge over Nura River, Bukhara-Zhyrau area, has collapsed. According to preliminary data, about 25-30 km of roadways must be restored .

Authorities inform that state of emergency is declared in Abai and Osakarov areas of Karaganda region. As it was previously reported, beginning from March 23 in Karaganda region have been recorded 67 cases of flooding. 35 settlements suffered flooding. 1,268 houses remain flooded. More than 6,500 people have been evacuated. There were no casualties reported. About 340 heads of livestock have died.
