First container train from India to Kazakhstan launched

A Kazakhstan Railways subsidiary - Kedentransservice JSC, UztemirYulKonteyner of Uzbekistan and Transport and Logistics Centre of Turkmenistan organized the shipment of 12 twenty-foot containers with ceramic tiles from the port of Mundra (India) to Astana (Kazakhstan) to the Sorokovaya station, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of Kazakhstan Railways.

The train will pass through the territories of Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The length of the route is 1,585 km by sea and 4,300 km by rail. The delivery time, depending on the workload of the port of Bandar Abbas (Iran), will be about 25-30 days.

The transportation is carried out within the framework of the development of container service along the eastern route of the North-South corridor. This corridor allows to significantly reduce delivery times, costs for the transportation of goods and expand the opportunities of exporters and importers of countries, informed the press service. 

As earlier reported, Kazakhstan has exported 5.8 million tons of grain from new harvest, marking a 53% growth, out of overall 7.4 million tons of grain shipments.
