First Asian-European transport forum opens in Lithuania

VILNIUS. October 19. KAZINFORM The first Asia-Europe Transport Development Forum, initiated by Lithuania, will begin on Monday in Vilnius, Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.

"The main aim of the forum is to provide a business-driven approach towards the development of transportation between Europe and Asia," the official website of the forum said.

A total of 200 participants, including international transport organizations, such as the International Road Transport Union and the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies, and major Europe-Asia transport business enterprises are to take part in the forum.

According to the official website, the main task for the forum is "to identify new challenges for Euro-Asian transport and logistics business, provide suggestions for improvement of its competitiveness and highlight the role of the transport sector in stimulating the global economy."

The forum will take place in parallel with the first ASEM Transport Ministerial Meeting, in which ministers or their representatives from 33 European and Asian states are to take part, Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru for full version.
