FIDE to open International Chess Academy in Astana
ASTANA. July 6. KAZINFORM FIDE World Chess Federation has announced it will build the International Chess Palace and open the International Chess Academy and School in Astana.
"We really hope that new world chess champions will come from Kazakhstan in the near future," Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, FIDE President, said at the opening ceremony of the world rapid and blitz championship on Thursday (July 5) in Astana.
"Dear President Nazarbayev, you have voiced a wish to make Astana the chess capital of the world and today we can clearly see how you idea is coming into fruition," K. Ilyumzhinov said.
"Nursultan Abishevich, I would like to thank you for supporting chess movement and congratulate people of Kazakhstan on the Capital Day," FIDE President added.
