Expert: CIS Economic Court needs greater powers for efficient operation

MINSK. July 6. KAZINFORM The CIS Economic Court needs to assume more functions for efficient operation, Chairman of the Economic Court of Pavlodar Oblast of Kazakhstan, former Chairman of the CIS Economic Court Aueznur Kazhenov told BelTA.

Aueznur Kazhenov is taking part in the international conference timed to the 20th anniversary of the CIS Economic Court.

A greater jurisdiction of the court is needed to enable more CIS bodies to apply to the court, the expert said.

The Economic Court made a great contribution to the operation of the CIS by providing interpretation of many legal acts, including, the USSR documents, and explaining their interrelation with the CIS documents. However, the expansion of the court's functions is still on the agenda. The Minsk conference will discuss, among other things, the further operation of the court and overall improvement of the legal system in the CIS, the Kazakhstan expert said.

Taking part in the conference are over 100 delegates representing government bodies of the CIS member states. Top on the agenda will be specific features, problems and prospects of the legal framework of regional cooperation in the CIS. Prominent lawyers, economists, top officials from international organizations, as well as representatives of the executive, judicial and legislative branches of the CIS member states will share their views on the major points of the agenda, BelTA informs.
