Exhibition marking 30th anniversary of People’s Assembly of Kazakhstan opens in Astana

The exhibition themed ‘The Assembly of People of Kazakhstan: 30 years of unity and accord’ with around 100 exhibits from the Kazakh Presidential Center’s achieve, library and museum funds on display has opened in the Kazakh capital Astana, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

Bakytzhan Temirbolat, director of Kazakhstan’s Presidential Center, said that 30 years ago, on March 1, 1995, a presidential decree had been issued to found the Assembly of Peoples of Kazakhstan – a unique public institution acting as a consultative and advisory body under the Head of State.

Under the 2007 constitutional reform, the Assembly was granted a constitutional status, securing 9 seats in the Majilis of the parliament, which significantly boosted its political and managerial role.

Over these years, the Assembly has become a key mechanism and true symbol of Kazakhstan’s model of interethnic and interfaith accord, which can be expressed as ‘unity in diversity’. Thanks to it, our country has wide opportunities in place for promoting culture, languages, traditions of all ethnic groups residing in Kazakhstan, totaling over 130, said Temirbolat.

Among the attendees of the opening ceremony were the deputies of the Kazakh parliament, representatives of ethnic and cultural associations, and interested state agencies.

The world community hails the Kazakhstani model of accord and stability, considering it as an example of peaceful co-existence and mutual respect. ‘Our shared goal is to preserve and pass on these values to future generations,’ said Marat Azilkhanov, head of the Secretariat of the People’s Assembly in the Presidential Administration.

The exhibition consists of two sections and is set to run through March 25 this year.

Earlier it was reported that the exhibition ' The Golden Horde: Cultural and Historical Heritage of Ulus of Jochi'  had been unveiled at the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan.
