Eurozone industrial producer prices rise by 0.7%

BRUSSELS. March 2. KAZINFORM Industrial producer prices rose by 0.7 percent compared with the previous month, the European Union (EU)'s statistics arm Eurostat said on Tuesday, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

Compared with December 2009, industrial producer prices in the 16-nation bloc that uses the euro dropped by 1.0 percent.

In January, while prices in the energy sector increased by 2.0 percent from December 2009, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector saw a slight increase of 0.2 percent. Intermediate goods, durable and non-durable consumer goods rose by 0.5 percent, 0.2 percent and 0.1 percent respectively. Capital goods remained stable.

In the 27-nation EU, industrial producer prices increased by 0.9 percent compared with December 2009 and by 0.1 percent compared with January 2009.

Among the member states for which data were available, the largest monthly increase in the total index was recorded in Malta, up by 17.2 percent. The sharpest decrease was observed in slovakia, down by 1.7 percent, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.xinhuanet.com for full version.
